As Auckland’s suburbs continue to evolve, Henderson is seeing a surge in demand for modern, compact housing. At the heart of this transformation is the 91 Edmonton Road development—Stage 1 of a 57-lot residential subdivision led by head contractor Earthco Civil for client OneCivil Land Development Professionals.
Custom Solutions Innovative Drainage Solution for a Future-Ready Neighbourhood
To meet the demands of the site and ensure environmental resilience, Earthco Civil partnered with Humes to supply a robust drainage system. The solution included concrete manholes and the newly developed Titan Radial Pressed concrete pipe, designed for durability and efficiency.
The standout feature? A custom-engineered 4000 x 2000mm box culvert system spanning 29.45m in length. Designed to HN-HO-72 loading standards and accommodating fill cover from 800mm to 2000mm, the culvert was equipped with header beams, wing panels, and flexible fish baffles—allowing the natural stream to flow uninterrupted while supporting future road access into Stage 2 of the development, which borders Te Atatu South Park.
Installation Made Seamless Through Collaboration
Earthco Civil engaged Direct Drains Limited to install the culvert modules. Careful planning and coordination were key, especially with site access routed through Te Atatu South Park.
“Staging and delivery coordination were critical,” says Meet Gajjar, Site Engineer at Earthco Civil. “Thanks to the straightforward design of the Humes box culvert system, installation was seamless.”
Jade Rayner, Director of Direct Drains Limited, agrees: “Installation was a breeze. The system was intuitive and efficient to work with.”
Results that Withstand the Elements
With stormwater and wastewater infrastructure now complete, build partners have begun construction on the townhouses. The culvert system has already proven its worth, performing exceptionally well during recent heavy downpours.
“This project is a great example of how collaboration and innovation can deliver infrastructure that’s both functional and environmentally conscious,” says Meet. “Humes’ engineered solution has helped future-proof this development for the growing Henderson community.”
