Future proofing water reliability for Porirua

Topic(s):

The Waitangirua Link Road (WLR) project undertaken by a partnership between Wellington Electricity, Wellington Water, Kāinga Ora and Porirua City Council, is essential for securing long-term water and power infrastructure to support a rapidly growing population in Eastern Porirua. The project includes the installation of new drinking water pipes and electrical cabling to replace aging and inadequate infrastructure. John Fillmore Contracting (JFC) were tasked with the installation of the new pipework, and selected Humes to supply the several kms of PE pipe for the upgrade.

“JFC are a good customer of ours and asked us to quote for this work through Humes Petone,” explains Jim Marshall, Northern Regional Sales Manager for Humes. “We were able to meet JFC’s tight timeline and airfreighted some fittings in from Australia to meet their early start date. We obtained the contract utilising PE pipe supplied through sister company Iplex to supply 1700m of 315mm PE pipe and 500m of 400mm PE pipe which will eventually supply a new reservoir for Porirua which is yet to be built.”

“We were also able to arrange a tour of the Iplex manufacturing facility in Palmerston North plant for the JFC team which was very well received. The five-month long project has now been completed on schedule and JFC were extremely happy with the service levels provided by the Humes Petone team.”
