Humes box culvert - an easy install

Topic(s):

 A creek running through Yardstore’s newest short and long-term yard space site, located between Drury and Ramarama, required engineers for the project to look for a solution to upgrade an existing undersized 525mm culvert. With the aim of increasing the yard’s future storage capacity and safeguarding the property from potential flood events, a concrete box culvert option from Humes was selected.

Yardstore provides high quality, secure, short- and long-term yard space with storage options ranging from 1,000m² to 50,000m². Situated in key locations in the Auckland region, customers can store most things from bulk materials to building machinery, equipment, trucks and cars.

“Our newest Yardstore site at Drury was once a 10.8-hectare piece of farmland, so our engineers at Maven designed a stormwater network plan to convert the land into flat, fully metalled yard for our customers to utilise,” says Pete Sain, Director of Yardstore. “Vuksich & Borich are our contractors – they know Humes well and dealt with them for all the concrete pipes, manholes and a box culvert to upgrade the existing stream culvert so we could future proof the site.”

 “The engineers decided we needed a 21.7m run of Humes 2000 x 1500 x 1550mm box culvert units with wing walls for the stream,” says Drainage Manager Eddie Gjaltema from Vuksich & Borich. “My team are pretty experienced and we found that this system was very easy to install, provided your bedding is spot on, and it went together no problem at all.”

“The units were delivered from Hamilton on flatbed trucks which went smoothly and on time. We were able to use our 47 tonne digger to lift the individual units off the truck and install them without a crane on site. Thomas from Humes came to the site and supported us through the install. We are very happy with the culvert itself and the Humes service … and I know Pete from Yardstore is too.”

 Thomas Pesaleli, Account Manager for Humes says, “installing the concrete box culvert in that location has created better and safer access into the back half of the site that backs on to State Highway 1. Everything went to plan for this project, and it is good to see everyone happy with our service and products.”

“From our perspective working with Humes went very well,” adds Pete. “Eddie and the Vuksich & Borich team spoke highly of them.”

With all the work now completed on the new site Pete says they are tenanting the space at 100 miles an hour!
