Dormer Construction has been working on the Christchurch City Council’s Wastewater Upgrade - Upper Riccarton Interceptor – since mid 2024. And, for the first time in many years, have engaged the Humes team who tailormade a delivery schedule for the supply of the project.
“Dormer hadn’t dealt with Humes for a number of years,” explains Steve Radcliffe, Regional Sales Manager – South Island. “This result is due to the great work by Matthew Hammond our Humes Account Manager who made the effort to sit down with the customer and explain our service model and listen to what it was that they needed in the way of product and when they would need it.”
“Working with Matt and the Humes team on this project has gone very well,” says Jamie Watson, Project Manager for Dormer Construction. “We agreed on a ‘just in time’ delivery schedule with Matt where the Humes team deliver only what we need to ensure we don’t have too much product at the work site. We find that if there are pipes waiting on site when we are not there, in the evenings and on the weekends, kids and young people can play on them and get hurt. Not having pipes there when we are not, makes the site a whole lot safer and definitely makes it easier for us.”
With the limited space on site to store materials we devised a tailormade service delivery schedule which required planning of the yard space and navigating the Cook Straight Ferries in order to ensure they received the product to meet their sensitive construction programme,” says Matt.
Jamie says it has also been extremely helpful for his team to only deal with one branch - Humes Hornby - if they need to race in and pick something up. “Humes have made it as easy as possible for us to be able to deal with them. It has worked very well.”
“Now we have developed a really good working relationship with Matt and the Humes Hornby team, we will definitely be looking at them for future work. Working with Humes has been a really good experience for us.”
