Answering the Call: Humes Helps Keep Ō2NL Moving

The 24-kilometre four-lane expressway will provide a safer, more efficient connection between Ōtaki and north of Levin. The project will also feature 15 structures and a shared walking and cycling path.

For Humes Account Manager Dan Leary, the project has provided an opportunity to step in and help. “A tender for the initial stages of the drainage civil works was issued last year, and we were awarded a portion of it,” says Dan.

 Having built a strong relationship with the team through an earlier project, Dan stayed in touch to identify further opportunities.

 That opportunity came following confirmation that project works could progress over winter, and the project required a large quantity of 1,800mm concrete pipe in a tight timeframe.

“They rang me asking if we could help and what our lead time would be,” explains Dan. “I checked and we could supply around 70% of what they needed out of stock and I said if we got the order, we could manufacture the balance pretty quickly. And we did.”
