Double Tee Bridge provides ideal access solution

Topic(s):

Product: 14m x 14m Double Tee bridge

Farm owner Danny Hurley got in touch with the Bridge It NZ team to advise that his existing timber deck bridge had “done it’s dash” - and was no longer a safe access option on his property in Kaponga, Taranaki. He was keen to replace the old one with a more resilient and low maintenance bridge. Danny needed a bridge that could handle the weight of his large farm machinery and would stand up to the aggressive coastal weather conditions for many years to come.

The Bridge It team were quick to respond and carried out a full site investigation to determine Danny’s options. It was agreed the most suitable solution was a full concrete 14m x 4m Double Tee bridge. Manufactured by Humes, this bridge design achieves .85 HNHO, Class 1 loading strength, through use of high tensile stressing wire in the 800mm deep concrete beams. No steel beam exposure to the elements adds to the durability and reduces maintenance costs, whilst the continuous concrete kerbing, enables effluent and spill containment.

Bridge It NZ handled the whole process on Danny’s behalf - from the consents, design, fabrication, and the installation. With only 3 days onsite, there was minimal disruption to farming operations. This is typical of their professional, fully project managed service; which eliminates the hassle and uncertainty for their clients.

Customer Feedback:

Sharyn & Danny Hurley – Kaponga Taranaki

“BRIDGE IT NZ, Pat Seuren, Campbell Upperton and Donald Richardson from Tiaki Engineering, we thank you all for the professional way you handled our job and kept us informed. Preparing the abutments was well organised. On the day of construction Ian Roebuck’s Crane was in place, trucks arrived with the bridge. We were impressed how everyone worked together as a team with minimal interruption to our Dairy Farm. By the end of the day we had our bridge all complete with smart hand railing, all went without a hitch. The bridge consists of 2 x 14m concrete Double Tee beams @ 18.34T plus 2 headwalls. The Double Tee beams are a far superior design and look smart. We now have a new bridge that we are very proud of and we highly recommend BRIDGE IT NZ”.
